BOURNE – While the search continues for a permanent superintendent, the Bourne School District is looking for an interim to head the district.
The school committee recently voted unanimously to have someone fill the position on an interim basis so that they can have a longer search for the permanent superintendent.
“We’ve had a lot of discussions about trying to get someone in the position for September but I have reservations about trying to rush that process,” said committee member Jennifer O’Neil.
Current superintendent Steven Lamarche is leaving at the end of the school year to lead the Dudley-Charlton Regional School District.
“If you’re looking for a practicing superintendent or assistant superintendent, it would be more difficult probably to attract talent during the summer than if you were actually moving into the year,” said New England School Development Council Executive Director Arthur Bettencourt.
The board wants to hire the interim superintendent before the end of the summer and is in favor of hiring the interim on a short-term basis.
