‘Cape and Islands Vote’ Hosting Cape-Wide Registration Drive Beginning Today

HYANNIS – ‘Cape and Islands Vote’ is seeking volunteers as they prepare to host a non-partisan voter registration effort in communities across the region this week.

Volunteers will be asked to staff locations at libraries in 14 Cape towns and on Martha’s Vineyard in order to administer the effort.

Residents are encouraged to stop by more than two dozen locations where they may register as a voter ahead of this November’s mid-term elections.

“People were talking about how we can get more citizens involved in the November election,” explained event organizer Laurie Veninger.

“And we thought about putting together registration drives at local libraries and the whole idea took off really quickly we started with two or three libraries and now we have 25 libraries.”

Volunteers are still needed to assist as library point people, to serve as main point of contact with a particular library director, and staff volunteers to serve to 2-to-3 hours on one day at one library and to a half-hour registration training prior to the event.

The drive will begin on Thursday and run through Friday and Saturday. To lean more, or to offer your help e-mail Veninger at [email protected].
