Cape Cod Bird Club Hosts October Meeting

BREWSTER – Join the Cape Cod Bird Club’s next meeting on Monday, October 9th, at 7 p.m. at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster.

The meetings are free, fun, and open to anyone with an interest in birds, from beginner to expert.

The speaker for October is Peter Flood, naturalist for Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.

He leads birding tours and educational programs related to bird identification, natural history and biology; and conducts Mass Audubon’s aerial seabird and waterfowl surveys of Nantucket Sound as part of the proposed “Cape Wind” project; as well as conducting shorebird surveys for Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences.

His presentation will feature an overview of the unique oceanic conditions and food resources found along the shelf edge, a look back at some of the amazing sightings over the past 12 years, a look forward to some anticipated sightings and a discussion on the conservation of rare and or declining avian species using the shelf edge.

And join the Cape Cod Bird Club for their October free Bird Walk.

The walk will be held on Friday, October 20th at 7:30 a.m. at Four Ponds Conservation Area.

The area abuts Pocasset town Forest and consists of pitch pine-oak forest with wetland areas throughout.

Participants will walk the trails of this hidden gem in search of lingering passerines and waterfowl.
