HYANNIS – Cape Cod Volunteers is now part of the Cape and Islands United Way.

The mission of Cape Cod Volunteers, to match people with meaningful volunteer opportunities, will be incorporated into the work of the United Way to support an array of community programs.

“It makes perfect sense for us to bring Cape Cod Volunteers under our umbrella,” said Cape and Islands United Way CEO Barbara Milligan. “Volunteerism has been the heart and soul of the United Way for decades.”

The Cape and Islands United Way was part of the original advisory council that gave birth to Cape Cod Volunteers.

“We are moving from a Community Investment model of passive funding to a Community Impact model,” said Milligan.

“This will translate into much more than just monetary support for local non-profits, it also means galvanizing people, and advocating for long term solutions to some of our areas most pressing problems.”

The United Way will continue the online volunteer matching service found at capecodvolunteers.org.

The Million Hour Challenge, with nearly 250,000 volunteer hours already logged by local volunteers, will also continue.

“Our goals for the future are ambitious,” said Milligan. “The addition of Cape Cod Volunteers will have an exponential impact on our ability to meet those goals and support local communities.”
