BARNSTABLE – New regulations have been put in place over concerns of the stock of striped bass, and one local organization is all for the new restrictions
Officials have reduced the catch limit by 25 percent for commercial fishermen, while recreational fishermen will now only be able to catch one striper.
“We’ll see more fish in the water, which will keep the industry and the recreational angler happy,” said Cape Cod Salties Fishing Club Acting President Joe Ginetti.
But Ginetti expressed concern that the state may not have the manpower to be able to enforce the new regulations. He said the Salties would like to see the state take some money from saltwater licensing fees and apply that towards increasing resources to enforce the restrictions.
