CENTERVILLE – School vacation week is here and the Centerville Library is offering several activities for families with a maritime theme.
Activities will begin Tuesday with a Nautical Concert from 10 to 11 a.m. The concert features sea shanties and songs of the sea and provides children with an opportunity to sing and dance.
The art of scrimshaw will be recreated on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. Instead of using bone, children will carve designs into white candles.
A map making workshop will be featured on Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. Kids can develop spatial thinking skills as they will create a maps on cloth of their room, house, neighborhood or even their town.
Events conclude on Friday with Sailors’ Valentines. From 11:30 to 12:30 kids will create octagon-shaped sailors’ valentines using small shells, rope and other beach items. Participants should gather plenty of shells and beach items before the event.
