FALMOUTH – With summer right around the corner, a number of safe boating events are planned for Cape Cod next week.

The Coast Guard will conduct vessel exams at the boat ramps at Sesuit Harbor and Rock Harbor on Saturday from 11-2. Members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be on-hand to discuss marine safety and safe boating practices.

Coast Guard crews will also hold a search and rescue demonstration at Surf Drive Beach in Falmouth on Saturday. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod will team up with a 45-foot response boat out of Station Woods Hole to demonstrate the techniques used for water rescues. The event is free and open to the public and begins at 10 a.m.

The events are planned in conjunction with National Safe Boating Week, which is May 21-27. The awareness campaign promotes responsible and safe recreational activities on the waters.
