SANDWICH – Work is underway on Sandwich’s public safety projects.
Crews have cleared land at the intersection of Quaker Meeting House and Cotuit Roads in preparation for the town’s new safety complex.
The new police headquarters, fire substation and administrative offices will sit on the 27-acre parcel at a cost of $17 million.
Town officials are hoping to hold a groundbreaking ceremony soon.
“Things are underway, we’re very excited about this project, it’s long overdue and it’s really going to benefit residents, visitors and everybody in the Town of Sandwich,” said Assistant Town Manager Doug Lapp.
The complex is expected to be finished late next year or early 2019.
Meanwhile, workers have cleared land behind the East Sandwich Fire Station for improvements to the facility.
The $1.3 million fire station improvements include sleeping quarters and new bathrooms.
“We’re really re-locating our main facilities in the proper location in town, so we’re going to have more modern facilities, they’ll be safer facilities and certainly on the fire/ems side, our response times around town and particularly in East Sandwich, will be much better,” said Lapp.
