DENNIS – The Dennis Police Department is conducting a public safety survey to define its goals and map out its future.
In keeping with the department’s commitment to community policing, the survey seeks input from residents, visitors and people who have a commercial interest in the town.
The department last conducted the survey in 2011, according to Lt. Peter Benson.
“It’s been five years and we know things have changed in town,” Benson said. “And we want to get the most current information from our citizens and our business owners as to how we are doing and if things have changed in their mind.”
The survey allows citizens to comment on quality of life concerns and their perception of crime, safety and security.
“Maybe we should be concentrating on other issues in town that maybe they didn’t feel were as important in 2011 and maybe are more important in 2016,” Benson said.
Benson said some issues that have been discussed recently by citizens include the opioid epidemic and illegal drug sales, traffic issues in vehicles in neighborhoods, and the department’s handling of homelessness and mental health issues.
Surveys can be filled out dennispolice.com or can be picked up at the police station, town hall, the senior center or town libraries.
The survey runs through the end of November.
