DeWitt Davenport to Receive 2019 Community Leadership Award

HYANNIS – The John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum Foundation has announced that it will award DeWitt Davenport and The Davenport Companies with this year’s Founders Community Leadership Award.

Davenport will receive the award at the 5th Annual Founders Community Leadership Award Luncheon on June 12 at the Hyannisport Club.

Journalist Emily Rooney, host of “Beat the Press on WGBH,” will be the keynote speaker.

The Founders Community Leadership Award recognizes an individual or organization within the community that has demonstrated excellence in leadership through outstanding initiative, impact of work and inspiration of others.

“For many years, DeWitt Davenport has helped improve the lives of so many people on the Cape and Islands through his philanthropic work,” said John L. Allen, President of the JFK Hyannis Museum.

“We are pleased to honor such an inspiring leader and organization in our community.”

In his efforts to create charitable opportunities for people to get involved both regionally and locally, in 2001 Davenport started Seaside Le Mans—the Race for the Cape Cod Community—which features Formula One-style karts in Mashpee Commons. The popular event held annually in September has raised more than $6.5 million for local organizations.

Most recently, he co-founded the Friends of Bass River, a nonprofit group that helps preserve and protect the delicate waterway.

Davenport also invests his time as Chairman of the Board of Cape Cod Healthcare. The Davenport Companies are proud to be a major contributor to the renovation and expansion of Cape Cod Hospital.

“We at The Davenport Companies are honored to be part of the vibrant Cape Cod community where we live and work and believe strongly in our charitable work as a way to improve the daily lives of many people,” said CEO of The Davenport Companies, DeWitt Davenport.

“We accept the Founders Community Leadership Award on behalf of all our team members who work to make Cape Cod a better place,” said Davenport.

The luncheon, $60 per ticket or $450 for a table of eight, will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the Hyannisport Club, 2 Irving Avenue, Hyannis Port.

Tickets can be purchased by contacting JFK Hyannis Museum Jennifer Pappalardo at [email protected] or by calling 508-790-3077, ext. 3.
