HYANNIS – Independence House will host the 15th annual Community Breakfast as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The breakfast will be held on Thursday, October 8, at Double Tree by Hilton in Hyannis from 8 to 10 a.m.
The keynote speaker of the event will be the Executive Director of the Cape Cod Regional Substance Abuse Prevention Initiative of Cape Cod Healthcare, Cheryl Bartlett.
Bartlett served as Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health under Governor Deval Patrick from 2013 to 2014.
She is developing an integrated public health approach to address the opiate crisis being felt across the country and particularly on Cape Cod.
A survivor of domestic violence will also discuss their personal story during the breakfast and a candlelight ceremony will be held in remembrance of homicide victims of intimate partner violence in the state over the past year.
