HYANNIS – Residents on the Cape may see a helicopter roaming in the sky next week.
Eversource is conducting aerial inspections of their high voltage electrical equipment on rights-of-way throughout the state before finishing up on the Cape and South Coast at the end of the week.
The semi-annual inspection involves the use of a helicopter equipped with heat-sensing, infrared scanning technology which can detect potential equipment issues before they occur.
“Well over a million customers in the Bay State depend on us for reliable electric service to power their day-to-day lives,” said Eversource President of Massachusetts Electric Operations Craig Hallstrom.
“The annual helicopter inspections of our transmission lines are a crucial and effective part of our commitment to reducing the frequency and duration of power outages.”
The weather inspections are expected to take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the utility company will be using a white Jet Ranger helicopter with a blue stripe.
