FALMOUTH – Unanimous approval from Falmouth selectmen has been given to the Falmouth Water Stewards and their proposal to place a couple of water bottle refill stations in town.
Alan Robinson, a member of the Stewards, explains some of what motivated the group in the first place.
“It was a goal of reducing the use of plastic bottles, of reducing litter, improving the health of the coastal and marine environment and inspiring visitors and residents to refill and reuse,” he said.
One of the stations will be at Peg Noonan Park and the other at the ballfield in Falmouth Heights. The later location was decided upon due to it being close to the finish line of the Falmouth Road Race, who provided a grant towards both of the installations.
“They have taps on either side, a lower one and a higher one. It has a conventional drinking fountain. Its wheelchair accessible and the model we’re choosing has a water basin for dogs,” said Robinson.
Their combined cost will be approximately $12,500.
The plan is to have both in operation by June.
