Former Cape Cod Priest Accused of ‘Inappropriate Communications’

Our Lady of Victory Parish

FALL RIVER – The Fall River Diocese has placed a former Cape Cod priest on leave amid accusations he made “inappropriate communications” with several adult parishioners.

Father Mark R. Hession, who was most recently assigned to the Diocesan Tribunal, was formerly the pastor at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.

A statement issued by the diocese said Hession was placed on leave from active ministry because of, “conduct inconsistent with standards of ministerial behavior.”

The statement said Hession’s behavior was in direct violation of the Code of Conduct for priests in the Fall River Diocese.

Hession was formerly assigned to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church until August 2018, when he was moved to the Tribunal.

Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha made the decision to put the priest on leave based on complaints he received from several parishioners.

While on leave, Hession is not permitted to exercise public ministry nor present himself as a priest in public settings.
