SOUTH YARMOUTH – The Friends of Bass River is seeking volunteers for its annual horseshoe crab spawning monitoring program.
Interested individuals will join Friends of Bass River Ambassador Erik Hunter and the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries in gathering data for the program.
The survey takes place on Eastern Beach, which is at the very end of West Dennis Beach, a half hour before high tide.
Surveys usually take between 30 and 45 minutes.

Survey dates and times are available starting June 3.
Friends of Bass River is a group of citizens dedicated to the guardianship of the ponds, coves and sub-basins of the Bass River Estuarine System.
Through monitoring, vigilance and direct management, the organization aims to preserve and protect the Bass River ecosystem.
As one of the largest waterways on Cape Cod, the Bass River is under an increased danger from elevated nitrogen levels that, if allowed to continue unchecked, will further damage and may permanently alter coastal life.
