HARWICH – The Harwich Conservation Trust is looking to preserve a 15-acre parcel along Cornelius Pond, and is asking for the public’s help.
The coastal plain pond, located between Queen Anne Road and Route 6, is considered a rare habitat, and the Trust has an agreement in place for parcel, which includes 1,000 feet of shoreline on the pond.
“That’s a rare find these days to have a landscape of that size with that amount of pond, shoreline still available,” said Trust Executive Director Michael Lach. “We were excited when the property owner was willing to work with us towards a conservation outcome.”
The property is for sale for $800,000, and the Trust is in the midst of raising funds to purchase the land, and is already well on its way.
“An anonymous donor has issued a challenge gift of $425,000 and that’s if we can raise the matching funds of $425,000, so we’re inviting folks to consider contributing and making a land-saving difference,” Lach said.
