PLYMOUTH – Hundreds of cyclists and volunteers turned out in Plymouth on a rainy Friday morning for the 34th Annual Bike Trek.
Over a three-day span, more than 500 cyclists will ride 160-mile ride to Provincetown in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the American Lung Association.
Participating riders span from those diagnosed with lung disease and lung cancer and survivors to healthcare professionals and fitness enthusiasts. The Trek allows cyclists of ranging age and skill levels with support and medical vehicles on hand.
Local drivers are advised of possible delays over the weekend as the cyclists make their way through Plymouth and various Cape towns.
On Friday, participants rode from the Hilton Garden Inn in Plymouth to the day one finish line at Camp Burgess in Sandwich.
The Trek is scheduled to take off from Camp Burgess at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and finish by 3:00 p.m. at Cape Cod Sea Camps in Brewster.
The final stretch begins on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. as riders take off for the Veterans Memorial School and Community Center in Provincetown.
Participants hope to reach a goal of raising $400,000 to dedicate to the American Lung Association’s mission to save lives by improving lung health by funding disease research, advocacy, and education.
