YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Community Housing Committee is holding a listening session on housing on Thursday at 6pm at Yarmouth Town Hall.
Committee members want to hear from residents on their preferences on existing housing programs, new approaches and possible locations.
“We’re kind of wondering what the community would like us to do for our next step,” said Program Administrator Mary Waygan. “So we’re getting together on Thursday to open up that discussion.”
Waygan adds that Yarmouth needs new, market-rate and affordable housing along with a diversity of styles and types of housing.
Yarmouth is currently at five percent in its inventory of affordable housing and wants to create another 600 affordable units.
“We’d like that to be in mixed-income developments where there’s some market rate and some affordable,” said Waygan.
At the listening session, the committee will start off with a presentation about what they’ve done so far and will then open up discussion to some new ideas on housing.
Town officials have also said that they will be launching a survey for residents to fill out soon.
