NANTUCKET – Marine life that has been entertaining and educating visitors this summer at the Maria Mitchell Association Aquarium on Nantucket will be released back into the water this weekend.
The association will host its annual Aquarium Release Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Sea creatures, including fish, mollusks, invertebrates and crustaceans will be released into the harbor with help from the public.
Throughout the summer season, the aquarium is home to 80 different species of animals. Visitors learn about marine ecosystems, the biodiversity of Nantucket waters, animal interaction, invasive species and preservation efforts.
Volunteers will be instructed on the proper way to handle the animals and directly release them into the water.
