MASHPEE – Mashpee selectmen are seeking input from the the town’s citizens in regards to a wastewater infrastructure plan.
Last week, Chairman Andrew Gottlieb said that asking questions prior to a course of action is the smartest thing the town can collectively do before next May’s Town Meeting.
“Having a bunch of hard positions at the beginning–which is what public comment, as we do it, kind of forces people into–doesn’t really get us to where we want to go,” Gottlieb said.
Special meetings will be held in the coming weeks to address the questions that citizens have.
A meeting was held Monday, where selectmen themselves took advice from Sandwich and Orleans officials, who have already made progress on their own wastewater plans.
Mashpee will hold meetings on October 28, November 25, and December 9. Meetings could also potentially be held on October 15 and November 12. The topics of these meetings could vary, according to Gottlieb.
Despite the fact that the next meeting is in about one month, Gottlieb stressed the importance of having a list of questions ready in September.
“We all have to be pretty disciplined about getting the questions on the table early enough,” Gottlieb said.
One plan for a wastewater solution, presented in a study provided to Upper Cape communities and their officials, would connect multiple communities to a larger treatment plant located at Joint Base Cape Cod.
