Nantucket Select Board Approves Host Agreement with Pot Dispensary

NANTUCKET – The Nantucket Select Board voted last month to approve a host community agreement and a letter of non-opposition for a marijuana dispensary which was recently licensed.

ACK Natural will be located on Tomahawk Road.

The board also voted unanimously to increase the maximum number of appointments for customers arriving by car to 90 per day.

ACK Natural co-owner Mike Sullivan said appointment-based visits will control traffic.

“We are looking at maybe ten cars per hour,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan says the dispensary will give preferential treatment to medicinal customers over recreational.

“A lot of dispensaries are now using a similar system to a Genius Bar at Apple where you sign up for your 15 minute block online and you are not welcome to wait in line until you have that appointment,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan expects ACK Natural to utilize that system during busy seasons or times.

“If we don’t need it in winter months then we wouldn’t use it,” he said.

The dispensary has about 14 parking spaces.

The board also voted to create a penalty for the businesses if it surrenders the license within the first five years.

If surrendered in the first year the penalty is $500,000. That penalties decreases by $100,000 each year.

The board will also keep the community impact fee on wholesale marijuana sales at 3 percent. Current federal laws prohibit the facility from selling product wholesale off the island.

Currently, ACK Natural will only be able to sell wholesale to the island’s other dispensary, The Green Lady.

The agreement also allows the community impact fee to be assessed incase concerns are raised by neighbors or other residents regarding the operation of the dispensary.
