DORCHESTER – President Obama was in Boston today along with other national and local dignitaries to dedicate the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate.

Obama was joined by Vice President Joe Biden, Senator John McCain (R-Arizona), Massachusetts senators Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey, and Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker. Members of the Kennedy family were also  in attendance.

The centerpiece of the $79 million dollar facility is a full-size replica of the senate chamber. The institute, which is located next to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, will allow students to act as lawmakers and debate the issues of the day.

The institute’s opening day is Tuesday.
