PLYMOUTH – Officials in Plymouth are asking residents to use extreme caution along the town’s shoreline and on local beaches after a fireworks barge went up in flames during the annual Fourth of July fireworks display Monday night.
Police and fire officials warn that unexploded firework shells could be washing up over the next few days. It’s believed most of the shells will wash up on Long Beach, but officials are also concerned about fireworks ending up at Stephen’s Field, Nelson’s Park, and other nearby areas.
The town asks anybody who encounters a firework not to touch it and contact police or fire immediately.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the incident, saying the preliminary probe finds that a fireworks shell exploded inside a mortar tube.
Nobody was injured.
