SANDWICH – Federal, state, and local organizations will be conducting a prescribed burn at Camp Edwards today.
The burn serves as a training opportunity for local firefighters and also meets grassland habitat resource management goals.
The Camp Edwards fire management program aims to use the prescribed burns to duplicate natural fires in maintaining the ecological community at the camp. There are 37 state listed species of plants and animals in the area.
The fire will be let in the southern area of the camp. Residents who see smoke and activity in the area should not be alarmed.
