Yarmouth Seaside Festival Returns for Columbus Day Weekend

YARMOUTH – Columbus Day Weekend means the return of the Yarmouth Seaside Festival.

The 39th annual event features a craft show, food vendors, rides and games, music and a kid’s entertainment tent at Joshua Sears Memorial Field from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

“We have pumpkin decorating, bed racing, mad scientist shows, birds of prey, Jaws of Life (demonstrations) and pie eating contests,” said Jan Butler, the event’s founder and organizer. “There is absolutely something for everyone.”

One of the newer events at the festival is the Saturday morning bed race which features pajama-wearing teams pushing custom built beds on wheels.

“It is absolutely hilarious and people really, really get excited,” Butler said. “It’s just a fun event.”

Weather permitting, the festival will host the Seaside Parade beginning at noon on Sunday.

“It did get rained out last year and we are anticipating that this year will be the biggest ever because all those people who were disappointed last year are joining in the fun this year,” Butler said.

Sunday evening events conclude with fireworks at Seagull Beach at 8 p.m.

Events also carry over to Monday with the sand sculpture contest and canoe/kayak race.

“I think in this day and age people are looking for something that just is uplifting,” Butler said. “We try to keep politics and causes out.”
