HYANNIS – A great white shark tagged with an electronic tracker off Cape Cod in 2012 came within 50 miles of the Cape last week.
But the research group OCEARCH said the shark named “Mary Lee” then made a move south during the weekend, heading away from the area.
The 3,456-pound shark has never returned to Cape Cod waters since she was tagged. Mary Lee was spotted off the New Jersey shore last summer.
OCEARCH said they expected the shark to close her 28,000 mile track so far by returning to Cape Cod, but has yet to do so.
“Until then we all wait and learn together,” OCEARCH wrote in an online post.
