FALMOUTH – A staple of the Falmouth community is closing its doors.
The Sippewissett Campground & Cabins is under contract to sell the 13-cabin property. The campground, known to many in the town, had been in business for 58 years, opening in 1961.
“My parents bought the campground in 1961, so we just finished our 58th season here,” explained campground Manager Denise Dias.
“It’s very hard. We’ve made a lot of good friends over the years and have had a lot of campers that have been coming here for well over 40 years. It’s emotional, but it’s time.”

The campground operated seasonally, offering teepees, cabins, and campsites from May through October.
Dias did not elaborate on who the campground is being sold to or what the future use of the property will be, stating that she was “not at liberty” to divulge buyer.
As part of the sale, campground staff have been holding three days of liquidation sales of items occupying the cabins on the property. Items up for grabs include everything from lawn chairs, snorkel masks and bicycles to tennis rackets, microwaves, and door mats.
“Household appliances, we have dishes and pots and pans, lots of linens, furniture, bedding, outdoor furniture and indoor furniture, maintenance garage with lots of tools, garden equipment, we have lots of blocks and pavers, office equipment, and picnic tables also,” said Dias.
The sale began on Wednesday and continued into Thursday. On Friday, the campground will be open from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. for the liquidation sale.
Denise says the final date of the liquidation is scheduled for the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
The Sippewissett Campground & Cabins is located at 836 Palmer Avenue in Falmouth, right off of Route 28A.
