WOODS HOLE – The Steamship Authority recently released a report indicating that their boats are carrying more passengers, cars and freight between the mainland and the islands.
Auto traffic is up eight point six percent over the first five months of 2015, and truck traffic is up nine point six percent, according to the study.
The SSA’s General Manager, Wayne Lamson, said passenger traffic is up as well.
“In July, we were up 7.2%, I think some of that had to do with July fourth weekend. In terms of June, we were up 5.8 percent.”
Lamson went on to say that although this year’s numbers were a nice uptick, the first few months of last year were affected by snowstorms.
The increase is also being helped by increased construction on the Vineyard, according to Lamson.
In other news, the SSA expects to keep the 5:30 am run between Woods Hole and Martha’s Vineyard; that will be official after the schedule is published for 60 days.
