Town of Barnstable Lists 2019 Memorial Day Ceremonies

BARNSTABLE – The Town of Barnstable has listed events to take place for Memorial Day.

The Annual Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 27., and will form at 9:30 a.m. at the Centerville Library, kicking off sharply at 10:00 a.m.

The parade will proceed down Main Street to Monument Square for a brief program, where there will be the placement of wreaths at monuments for the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars followed by a firing salute by the Yarmouth Minutemen.

The parade will then reform and proceed to the Beechwood Cemetery for the main program. This year’s Keynote Speaker is Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel Charles D. Carroll, a Command Pilot with over 8,000 flight hours in service to the United States Air Force, The Air Force Reserve and the Air National Guard.

In a career spanning over 33 years he has flown fighters and heavies, tankers and transports, and is a graduate of Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff School and Air War College.

The public is invited to bring pictures with them to the event of a family member, friend or acquaintance who has passed away and was a veteran. The parade will not reform but streets will remain blocked to allow safe foot traffic back to the Library.

At approximately 12:15 p.m., the John F. Kennedy Memorial Trust Fund Committee will host the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the JFK Memorial on Ocean Street.

Assisting the John F. Kennedy Memorial Trust Fund Committee will be a group of Cub Scouts from Pack 54, the Barnstable Police Department Honor Guard and other special guests.

The Keynote Speaker for this event will be Barnstable Town Council Vice President John Flores.

The 2019 JFK Memorial Trust Fund Scholarship will also be awarded to a 2019 Barnstable High School Graduate. Three finalists are in consideration for the scholarship. All finalists have incredible academic and extracurricular activity records.
