Yarmouth Opening Up Cooling Centers During Extreme Heat This Weekend

YARMOUTH – The Town of Yarmouth is opening up cooling centers for residents and the public to get out of the weekend heat, with temperatures expected to be near 90 degrees.

The Yarmouth Senior Center will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10-4pm and pets are welcome as long as they’re leashed.

The town is also opening the public libraries in West Yarmouth and South Yarmouth as cooling centers on Saturday from 10-4pm.

“We’ll have water, we want you hydrated and we would really like you to come to the cooling centers and try to make sure your body temperature’s regulated for the day,” said Yarmouth Director of Community Services Pat Armstrong.

Restrictions will be relaxed this weekend for dogs looking to keep cool in the town’s fresh water ponds.

Dennis Pond, Sandy Pond near the Yarmouth Dog Park and Wings Grove Pond in South Yarmouth off Station Avenue will be allowing dogs.

Armstrong hopes that residents and the public take advantage of the cooling centers.

“We encourage them to be careful during this heat season,” said Armstrong. “This is not something just to ignore, this should be taken very seriously.”
