YARMOUTH- Now that Memorial Day has passed, Yarmouth Police Chief Frank Frederickson is asking the public to remove the thousands of mourning ribbons from street signs and utility poles in the wake of the shooting death of Yarmouth Police Sergeant Sean Gannon.
YPD will assist those who cannot recycle the ribbons themselves, and will accept bagged drop-offs of the ribbon at police headquarters for proper disposal.
Frederickson would like to remind the public that ribbons on private property are the responsibility of the individual homeowner, and that only ribbons from public areas should come down.
The chief also thanked all of those for their unwavering support they have received since Gannon’s loss, but would like to look forward to the future and look for opportunities to grow from the tragedy.
