Career-First: Feinstein No-Hits Red Raiders for Dolphins’ Third Straight

HYANNIS – The girl can bring it.

Dennis-Yarmouth righty Sammi Feinstein tossed her first career no-hitter Monday afternoon against Barnstable High in a 12-0 game shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.

Feinstein struck out five and allowed neither walk nor hit but two Red Raider baserunners reached safely on infield errors. She faced 17 batters in all and is now, like her Dolphin counterparts, 3-0 on the season.

It was a fine how-do-you-do for the host Red Raiders in their long-awaited first game of the spring campaign as the hosts watched the Dolphins plate seven runs in the first on a combination of three walks and two basehits and a pair of infield errors.

Dennis-Yarmouth plated a pair of runs in the second and third innings, and one more in the top of the fourth for the 12-0 finale.

“Sammi (Feinstein) had great control. She pitched a great game,” said Dennis-Yarmouth head coach Mike Bonasia. “She was hitting the corners and she just dominated.”

Thus far this season, Feinstein boasts a 0.00 earned run average after three outings.

“I’m very happy with how the girls are playing,” Bonasia added. “But we have work to do. They’re hard workers. They’re industrious.”

Dennis-Yarmouth got an added bonus Monday from left fielder Grace Bent who made her first career varsity start and capitalized on the opportunity by going 3-3 with three RBI. Maggie Johnson added to the Dolphin hitting attack with a hit and two RBI while Taylor Conley, Kiley Chapastro (2-3), Ali Plucinski and Taylor Deluga also added hits. Centerfielder Meghan Coyle went 2-3 with two runs scored.

Kristen Stefani took the loss for the Red Raiders (0-1).

Dennis-Yarmouth next faces Falmouth at home on Wednesday at 3:30 in an Atlantic Coast League tilt and then Martha’s Vineyard on Thursday.

Barnstable faces Bridgewater-Raynham on Thursday.
