EAST SANDWICH – Barnstable High first-year head coach Martha Deusser could not have been more exhausted Saturday afternoon.
Facing the Sandwich Lady Knights (5-13) in both teams’ final regular season game, and with nothing but pride on the line, the Red Raiders hammered out 27 hits and defeated their hosts,

26-23. While Sandwich had just 11 out of the game’s total of 38 hits and 49 runs scored, the Lady Knights scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and ended with the tying run at the plate (two women on base).
“It was the longest game of my life,” Coach Deusser said.
Barnstable’s 27 hits set a new all-time single game record for the Red Raiders, as did the total runs scored (48).
And it was Barnstable High catcher Jaime Corey whose 7th inning grand slam home run ultimately spelled the difference in this marathon, 7-inning affair. Corey went 4-5 on the day with six runs batted in, six runs scored and belted a two-run triple to go along with her game-winning clout.
Barnstable centerfielder Shyanne Pires was right behind with a 5-6 day at the plate and pair of RBI while Danielle Curtin went 3-7 with five RBI, including a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Sara Higgins was no slouch at the plate, either, as the leftfielder went 4-7 with four RBI.
Sandwich High’s Kyle Condosta and Ashley Landry both went 3-5 and accounted for more than 50% of their team’s total hits.

on the day, another record for Barnstable pitchers in a single game.
Barnstable’s Ashlie Curtiss went 3-7 with four runs scored and had two RBI and Cassidy Lariviere also went 3-7.
Atlantic Coast League Co-Champions Dennis-Yarmouth Split Doubleheader with Pembroke
On the heels of capturing its first Atlantic Coast League softball title in eight years, the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins split a non-league doubleheader Saturday afternoon at home to wrap up the regular season at 18-2.
Pembroke’s ace Taryn Cahill went toe-to-toe against D-Y’s Hailey Miller in game one, with the guests garnering the early, upper hand en route to a 13-6 victory. It was only the second time this season Dennis-Yarmouth had sustained a loss.
Pembroke rapped out 12 hits in the first game of the doubleheader, combined with eight walks and after plating solo runs in the first and second frames for a 2-0 lead over the Dolphins, the visiting Titans broke it open in the third with five runs for a 7-0 lead.
Dennis-Yarmouth came back with five runs in the fifth inning but by then the score had climbed to a 9-5 disadvantage.
Kiley Chapasko and Maggie Johnson both went 3-4 for the Dolphins in the 13-6 loss and leadof hitter Taylor Conley went 2-4.
In the second game, with Sammi Feinstein in the circle, things were completely turned around as the Dolphins’ ace tossed a complete-game, six-hitter en route to a 14-1 victory.
After allowing a game-opening triple to Pembroke’s Kate Suprenant, who scored on a ground out, Feinstein struck out four, allowed no walks and scattered six hits. She threw six straight shutout innings after the one run allowed in the first.
All totaled, D-Y hammered out 18 hits in the second game, with Taylor Deluga leading the way with a 4-for-4 day at the plate and three runs scored.
Ali Plucinski (2-3), Abby Higgins (2-4), Meghan Coyle (2-4), Johnson (2-4), Patty Newhard (2-3) and Conley (2-4) all had multiple hits for the hosts.
