Black History Celebration to Feature Music, Food and Lecture in Woods Hole

WOODS HOLE – Black History Month in Woods Hole will be celebrated with a lecture, live music and multicultural feast on Thursday, February 23rd.

The event will showcase the career of Hattie Carwell, who will present “African American Contributions to Science and Technology: Hidden in Plain Sight” at 3 p.m. in the Meigs Room at the Marine Biological Laboratory’s Swope Center.

Carwell has 36 years and specialized in physics. She has worked for the U.S. Deaprtment of Energy, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and has authored two books on the black experience in science.

Following the lecture, jazz and latin music will be played live by two modern jazz ensembles.

Lastly, from 4:30 to 7:30, an annual ethnic potluck feast celebrating everyone of every race will take place. Harambee, as the event is called, will also take place at the Swope Center.
