Cape Cod National Seashore Hosts National Park Week Activities

EASTHAM – The Cape Cod National Seashore will be hosting a number of events for the next nine days to celebrate National Park Week.

The annual celebration, which is observed at all national parks across the country, provides the opportunity for parks to showcase their special features through engaging activities.

At the Seashore, visitors are invited to take a hike, tough a bucket loader, aim a fire hose, look for whales, climb a lighthouse, tour a whaling captain’s home and celebrate the history of wireless communication.

“We like to offer a full menu of activities, a lot of them geared towards families who are visiting during that week in April,” said Sue Moynihan, the Chief of Interpretation and Cultural Resources Management.

The Province Lands Visitor Center will open for the season on Saturday, with staff on hand to help with trip planning and rangers will lead whale walks.

In Truro, tours of Highland Light will open on Monday, allowing people to climb Cape Cod’s oldest light for a view.

On Wednesday, a “Touch a Truck Junior Ranger” event is scheduled from 10:30 to noon at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham.

Park vehicles and tools will be assembled for touching, climbing on and sitting in.

International Marconi Day will be held on Saturday, April 22 at the Nauset Coast Guard Station at Coast Guard Beach in Eastham.

Join licensed radio operators as they make contact with operators around the world.

And Sunday, April 23 is National Park Rx day where parks across the country will be celebrating how they promote physical fitness.

“It’s really a week for people to get out, remember that the Cape is a beautiful place to visit in the spring and join us in some of our activities,” said Moynihan.
