BARNSTABLE – A local delegation is heading to the State House to advocate for the passage of the Safe Communities Act, a proposal that would make Massachusetts a so-called “Sanctuary State.”
Cape and Islands Stronger Together and the Barnstable Democratic Town Committee will join a rally at the State House on April 5th, which is the 21st Annual Immigrants Day in the Bay State, to argue in favor of the bill.
The proposed bill would bar any state funds from being used in the enforcement of federal immigration laws. The act is in committee after being referred by both the House and the Senate.
The delegation will meet with Cape and Islands legislators after the State House rally. 3rd Barnstable State Rep. David Vieira (R-Falmouth) is on the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security.
