FINominal Fest to Celebrate Sharks, Education and Conservation

CHATHAM – For a third year, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary will once again host FINominal Fest at Chatham’s Kate Gould Park.

The free event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The day will kick off with a free screening of Great White Shark at the Orpheum Theater at 10 a.m.

There will be a multitude of shark-themed activities to show and experience the various aspects of shark research, as well as a scavenger hunt on Chatham’s historic Main Street.

With the numbers of sharks in local waters dramatically increasing in recent years, the interest level is high, and organizers say event like this have begun to answer people’s questions and changed the perception of sharks.

“We’re kind of shifting away from a view of sharks as a view of fear,” said event coordinator Emily Wolfe. “Now it’s how do we help these animals what can we still learn about them.”
