Hunt Endorses Cummings in Re-Election Bid

KA_Cummings Sherriff Event_Hyannis_012716_048BOURNE – Barnstable County Sheriff Jim Cummings has received an endorsement from one member of the Cape and Islands legislative delegation ahead of his re-election bid in November.

Sandwich State Rep. Randy Hunt, a fellow Republican, is backing Cummings ahead of his general election challenge from Democrat Randy Azzato. Cummings is seeking a fourth term as Sheriff.

“I have worked closely with Sheriff Cummings for the past six years in my role as Massachusetts State Representative, particularly in the area of substance addition,” Rep. Hunt said in a statement. “His leadership in areas that are now replicated in other correctional facilities shows Jim’s vision for what works and his willingness to forge a new direction.”

Hunt cites the implementation of the Vivitrol program as the Barnstable County Correctional facility as one of the reasons for his endorsement. Vivitrol is a medication used to try and curb addiction in inmates.

“I am thankful for the formal endorsement by State Representative Randy Hunt of my re-election as Barnstable County Sheriff,” Cummings said in a statement. “Representative Hunt has been a critical partner in the coordination of prevention and treatment efforts with the addiction crisis and other criminal justice matters.”
