Plymouth Forum to Discuss Marijuana Legalization

PLYMOUTH – Community leaders will come together for a public forum tonight in Plymouth to discuss the major issues surrounding the legalization of marijuana.

Substance abuse treatment facility Recovering Champions will host the forum which will explore the possible impact legalization will have on healthcare, employment rights, public safety and youth.

Panelists will provide insight on the concerns of legalization and discuss the latest efforts to end the region’s opioid crisis.

Recovering Champions Aftercare Director Alyssa Horton says the forum is for everyone, including parents and healthcare professionals.

“I think this is just going to broaden how many people are affected,” she said. “A lot of people should be going and asking questions.”

The forum, which starts at 7 p.m. at Plymouth Memorial Hall is free and open to the public, but space is limited.

Forum panelists include Plymouth and Barnstable State Senator Vinny deMacedo, Plymouth County Sheriff Joe MacDonald, Peter Monaghan, an RN with CleanSlate and Recovering Champions clinician Tim Lineaweaver.

“My hope is that we can start to answer some of these questions by stepping back a little bit and really trying to come up with legislation that speaks to some of its concerns,” said Lineaweaver.

Recovering Champions has treatment facilities in Falmouth and Sandwich.
