Robert Jones Appointed to Steamship Authority Board of Governors

WOODS HOLE – Robert Jones has been welcomed by the Steamship Authority Board of Governors as its newest member, representing the port community of Barnstable.

Barnstable Town Council appointed Jones to replace Robert O’Brien, who retired late last year after serving on the board for 25 years.

Prior to his appointment to the Steamship Authority, Jones served as the Barnstable representative on the Steamship Authority’s Port Council from 2002-2016.

“We are pleased to welcome Bob to our board and look forward to his insight,” said Elizabeth Gladfelter, SSA Board Chair and Falmouth Representative.  “Bob’s diverse background and experience gleaned from his previous role on the Port Council will be invaluable as the Authority continues to move forward.”

In addition to his role with the Steamship Authority, Jones is the former owner of Robert R. Jones Landscaping and Construction.

He spent several years in the marine sales and yacht brokerage businesses, retiring in 2015 as owner/President of Cape Cod Marine Group, Inc.

Jones also served as Past President and Treasurer for the Cape Cod Marine Trades Association, and held several elected, appointed and volunteer roles in the community.

He is the Founder of the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound and a current committee member for the Kennedy Memorial Trust Fund and the Cape Cod Maritime Museum.

He previously served as Town Councilor for the Town of Barnstable, and held prominent positions with the Barnstable Park and Recreation Commission, the Town of Barnstable Waterways Committee and Natural Resources Study Committee.

Jones also authored and chaired the Hyannis Harbor Capacity and Hyannis Harbor Shoaling Studies.
