HYANNIS – The Cape Cod Vet Center in Hyannis will host the second annual Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day Tuesday.
The ceremony will take place at the Barnstable Senior Center, beginning at 1:30 p.m. The event will include a keynote speech and flag raising ceremony.
The ceremony is open to the public and veterans of all wars are encouraged to attend.
“Our hope is, number one, bringing veterans together, but also when folks are together to honor them and to show them specifically that their community appreciates them,” said Jocelyn Howard, a clinical psychologist and team leader with the Cape Cod Vet Center.
“Some Vietnam veterans continue to struggle, be it with the way they were treated when they came home, be it from trauma memories from when they were overseas, so we have an upsurge of Vietnam veterans seeking services here at the Cape Cod Vet Center,” Howard said.
President Barack Obama declared March 29 as Vietnam Veterans Day in 2012.
