OSTERVILLE – If Sturgis West is came looking for a map to foreshadow the 2014-15 season, they may have found one in the team’s starting point guard.
Last season’s top scorer for the Navigators (1-0), the Navigators’ Rachel Gardner poured in a game-high 12 points Tuesday night at the Thomas Evans Gymnasium to pace the visiting Sturgis West Five to a season-opening, 36-29 win. The victory spoiled host Cape Cod Academy’s season home-opener and it was the first Cape & Islands League match-up for both teams. It was also the season-opener for Sturgis West.
Joining point guard Gardner in leading Sturgis West in scoring was the dynamic duo of Mary Sullivan and Rebecca Rowe who both had eight points. Rounding off the scoring for the victorious guests was Maggie Farley with 4 points and Shannon Crowley and Catherine Mahoney each with two.
Becca White led the Seahawks in points totaled with nine on the night. None of the Seahawks finished in double-digits.

Sturgis West heads to Cape Tech in Harwich on Thursday night (Dec. 18) for its next match-up while the Cape Cod Academy girls seek redemption versus the St. John Paul II Lady Lions Thursday afternoon at 4:00 pm in Osterville.
