EASTHAM – Eastham Police report that on Sunday at approximately 8:30 PM, Eastham Police Officer Jacob McGrath was on patrol and came across a motor vehicle crash on Route 6, in front of the Brickhouse Restaurant. The crash involved two vehicles, both of which were located in the roadway with heavy damage. Officer McGrath began to assess the condition of the vehicle occupants and determined that the operator of one of the vehicles, a Toyota Rav4, had been critically injured. Officer McGrath, along with Sgt. Mark Haley who had arrived on scene, began performing life-saving medical treatment for this operator. A short time later the Eastham Fire and Rescue Department arrived on scene and took over care for the patient. This patient was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with life threatening injuries along with one of the occupants of the second vehicle, a Kia Telluride, who suffered less severe injuries.

Two Eastham Police Officers, with specialized training in crash reconstruction, responded to the scene and began the investigation. This investigation will be ongoing for several days but preliminarily it appears that the Toyota Rav4 entered Route 6 from a private driveway into the path of the Kia Telluride which was southbound in the Route 6 travel lane.

Route 6 was closed and detoured in both directions for approximately two hours while the on scene investigation was conducted. The Eastham Department of Public Works, Orleans Police Department, and National Park Service Rangers, assisted with traffic management at the scene.

At this time, the names of the involved parties are being withheld to offer privacy to them and their families during this difficult time.
