CHATHAM – Chatham is looking to expand a town-wide dredging permit.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a permit to the town in January of 2014 for seven dredging projects and 17 disposal sites.
The town seeks to add two more dredging sites in Pleasant Bay and Mitchell River and four new beach nourishment locations.
The Corps said shoaling in Pleasant Bay is an ongoing concern and improvement dredging is being proposed within a large zone between Minister’s Point and Strong Island.
The Mitchell River dredging is a small maintenance project.
The material dredged from Pleasant Bay would be used to expand the previously approved beach nourishment of Scatteree Landing from 18,320 square feet to 80,995 square feet.
The other nourishment projects will be at Linnell Lane, Nearshore and Pleasant Steet, a private beach.
If approved, the permit would be valid for 10 years.
