Dennis Golf Promotes Getting Them to the Green

Now that the warm weather and longer days have returned, it’s the perfect time to get outdoors and swing those clubs. Golfers of all ages are hitting the greens, and getting the season off to a great start.

Whether you’re a professional or a novice; whether you want to play 18 holes or just hit a bucket of balls; whether you’re a member or just visiting for a few hours – Dennis Golf allows for an improved total golf experience. It’s open to the public, but has the feel of a private club.

Dennis Golf also offers classes for golfers of all ages and experience levels. In fact, this year, the Junior PGA League has been welcoming young golfers more than ever to its teams. Typically, Dennis residents ages 8-13 can join the league, and all they need is the desire to learn about the sport, and a set of golf clubs.

“Think of it as ‘Little League’ for Golf,” said manager Maryellen Fabiano-Stowe. “We have Juniors who sign up to compete in a team-like atmosphere. We currently have two teams, one for Dennis Highlands and one for Dennis Pines. This year, Dennis Golf is also fielding two more teams for those ages 14-17 – a great opportunity for those who age out of the Junior PGA, but would love to continue to compete.”

She adds that, although skill is not a requirement, some knowledge of play and etiquette is always helpful. Of course, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn go without saying.

“The basics of golf play, as well as rules and etiquette, is the main focus of the Junior PGA League, and trying to focus on growing the game of golf involving younger players,” said Fabiano-Stowe. “It also promotes a healthy team atmosphere, while focusing on self-discipline.”

The Dennis Pines and Highlands teams are run by a contracted instructor, John Boniface, who is a PGA Professional, as well as the Head Golf Professional on staff, Mike Pry. Both are current card-carrying members of the PGA, bringing over 50 years combined experience playing golf.

Each team can accommodate up to 14 players. The cost to join is approximately $245, which includes uniform, golf play and instruction. The program runs between June and July and matches are played both at home as well as offsite against other teams (Captains, Eastward Ho and Ocean Edge), she added.

Currently, the Junior PGA League teams are filled. But, Fabiano-Stowe said, kids from ages 8-13 may also join Dennis Golf’s free clinics, which are held every Wednesday from July 11 through August 7. All that is needed is a sign up by calling the Dennis Highlands Pro Shop at 508-385-8347, ext. 1. Clubs are not required for these clinics. And, the clinics are taught by our PGA Junior League coaches as well as a handful of Dennis Golf volunteers.

“We also have incredible junior rates,” she added. “Resident Juniors can join the golf courses as members for $165 (ages 12-18). However, an assessment of skill level can be made by our Pro if the child is younger. Non-resident Juniors cost $230, and any Junior may play with any paying adult member or guest for just $10 after 3 p.m. daily! This is an incredible deal and really helps us promote the game of golf in a fantastic atmosphere.”

Junior memberships are extended the same benefits of all members, including unlimited play at BOTH Dennis Pines and Dennis Highlands golf courses. “It’s really an exciting, safe and fun way to introduce golf to the younger generations,” she said.

Dennis Golf is home to two beautiful 18-hole courses: Dennis Pines and Dennis Highlands. Dennis Pines is a par 72, 7,000-yard championship golf course situated on 170 acres of pine forest land. Dennis Highlands is a par 71, 6,500-yard championship golf course. It is situated on 175 acres of pine and oak covered grounds.

To the members of Dennis Golf though, it’s about so much more than just the course. To get more information on Dennis Golf, its courses or its classes, visit www.dennisgolf.com.
