SANDWICH – A three-alarm brush fire was reported in Sandwich around 1:15 p.m Tuesday. The fire was located east of Sandwich Hollows Golf Course and south of the Service Road deep in the woods. A second alarm was requested and crews from Bourne, Cotuit, Joint Base Cape Cod, Mashpee, Plymouth, West Barnstable and the Massachusetts Bureau of Forest Fire Control State all responded to the scene. No injuries were reported and no structures damaged. Sandwich Fire Department reported that up to five acres were involved.
The state units were just clearing when reports came in of another brush fire in Harwich (lower photo). That fire which broke out around 4 p.m., was in the Bells Neck Conservation area. Firefighters had difficulty initially accessing the remote marshy area where the fire was. No injuries were reported and the cause of both fires is under investigation.
