Attleboro man arrested after a crash for alleged drunken driving and resisting arrest


FALMOUTH
– Falmouth Police report that Andrew Smyth, 29, of Attleboro, MA, was arrested after a crash investigation revealed that he was driving drunk. When officers were placing him in custody he resisted by kicking an officer several times.

On Tuesday at 6:17 PM, officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash with injury at the intersection of Brick Kiln Road and Route 28 North. One operator was treated by the Falmouth Fire/Rescue Dept. for minor injuries to her wrist.

The other operator, Andrew Smyth, was disorderly and placed under arrest for drunk driving and resisting arrest for kicking an officer. He was transported to the hospital by officers for evaluation at his request after he declined medical assistance from the Falmouth Fire & Rescue Dept. Mr. Smyth became uncooperative at the hospital and kicked a security guard. While being placed in handcuffs to be transported to the police station he became combative. During the altercation one officer sustained a shoulder injury and another officer injured her wrist.

A 12 hour hold was placed on his vehicle and his license was suspended. His bail was later set at $1040.00 dollars. Mr. Smyth will be arraigned today at Falmouth District Court for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, Operating Under the Influence of Drugs, Negligent Operation, Resisting Arrest (2 counts), Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Assault & Battery, Open Container of Marijuana in a Motor Vehicle, Disorderly Conduct, Speeding, and a Stop Sign Violation.
