Video: Divers called to search Dennis lake after swimmer reported in distress

DENNIS – Dive team members were alerted to respond to Dennis about 4 PM Tuesday. According to reports, a swimmer was seen in distress before disappearing off Princess Beach at Scargo Lake in Dennis. Several boats were supporting divers as they searched for the victim. A helicopter hovered over the lake for a time but could not find the victim. As darkness fell, local crews scaled back their efforts but additional resources from the State Police were coming in to continue the search operation.

Statement from Dennis Police: At 3:47 pm today the Dennis Police Department Dispatch Center received a report of a male swimmer in Scargo Lake, Dennis that appeared to have been in distress. Dennis Fire and Police personnel responded to the lake at which time Fire Department boats and divers from multiple Cape Cod towns began a search of the area of the lake where witnesses last saw the swimmer. The Massachusetts State Police Air Wing provided assistance with an aerial search of the lake. As of now nothing has been located and dive operations have been suspended but search operations will continue this evening.

Princess Beach will be closed overnight due to the ongoing operation.
