BOURNE – Two pedestrians were reportedly struck by a vehicle in Bourne about 7:45 PM Monday. Three vehicles appeared to have collided in a chain reaction crash as well. The crash happened on MacArthur Boulevard (Route 28) northbound near the Bourne landfill. Both victims were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital trauma center in New Bedford. Route 28 northbound was closed while crash reconstruction was completed.

From Bourne Police: On Monday October 23, 2023 at approximately 7:38 PM, the Bourne Police Department responded to MacArthur Boulevard, northbound in the area of the Bourne landfill for a reported motor vehicle crash. Officers responded and discovered multiple involved vehicles with two people injured in the roadway. Bourne Fire Department was requested to the scene to care for the injured. Subsequently, two people, a 56-year-old male from Everett, MA, and a 31-year-old male from Bourne, MA, were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries that do not appear to be life threatening.

The preliminary investigation indicated that there was an initial crash which caused two vehicles to become disabled in the roadway. In an effort to avoid a crash with the disabled vehicles, the operator of a third vehicle, a 21 year-old female from Centerville, MA, swerved and struck two pedestrians that were out of their vehicles due to the first crash. As a result of the crash and subsequent investigation, MacArthur Boulevard was closed, northbound, from Waterhouse Road to the South Rotary for approximately four hours. This incident remains under investigation by the Bourne Police Department and members of Cape Cod Law Enforcement Council’s Crash Reconstruction Team. The Bourne Police Department would like to thank members of the Bourne Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police and MassDOT for assistance with the road closure.
