VIDEO: Brush fire at Harwich transfer station.

HARWICH
– At approximately 12:15 Harwich Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a small brush fire at the Transfer station located on Queen Anne Road.

Upon arrival, a fast spreading wind driven fire was running up hill toward an array of solar panels prompting a call for additional engines for water supply and manpower.

Crews using forestry hoselines were able to quickly knock down the head of the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

Heavy smoke blanketed the area for a time and drifted over Route 6 prompting additional calls from concerned drivers.

The entrance to the transfer station was closed off by Harwich Police while the fire was extinguished. All Fire companies were returned to service at 1:30pm
